Goreme March 29-April 1

We arrive at 7am and the van from Shoestring Pension picks us up from the bus station. Oktay briefs us on everything there is to do in the area, all the walks that can be done in the canyons and where we can best watch the solar eclipse that afternoon. That afternoon we walk for an hour to the sunset viewpoint and observe the total solar eclipse amongst the absoltely incredible landscape of the cappadocia canyons/ go here to see pictures http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=eclipse+cappadocia after which we walked for many hours through the canyons surrounded by these natural sculptures. On the way we stop at a tea house in the canyons where the owner dresses Beck up in traditional Turkish dress - not an improvement. I wonder if Beck will let me post the photo in our photo library. Click on PHOTOS down the bottom to find out. After our 9km walk we go out for a celebratory birthday dinner and a big sleep.

The next day we go on a tour to an underground city - 8 levels deep safeguarding up to 10,000 people over the last 2000 years, a walk through a valley with similar caves dug into the cliffs as in the canyons and a wonderful lunch by the river, a huge cathedral dug into cliff walls, a onyx and turquoise factory and a pottery factory where Beck volunteers to try her hand at pottery making with hilarious results (another one where she may not let the photos be published). The next day we buy our ticket to Antalya and leave an amazing unique location.
